It’s not too much to say that skirting board heating is a revolution in the way we heat our houses. It has certainly been a revolution in the way that I heat mine.
I’d been considering getting UFH (Under Floor Heating) for some time – but the experiences of people I know who have had it fitted had been preventing me from taking the plunge.
UFH is time consuming and costly to fit: and while it does save energy it isn’t as efficient as you would think. In cost it is a long way ahead of both radiators and heated skirting boards – UFH is the most expensive form of normal domestic heating to install.
In energy saving terms, it’s better than a radiator – but when you think about how much it costs to fit, and its associated problems, there’s little wonder I kept holding back. UFH is not easy to maintain, for a start. Because it lives under the floor, any maintenance, repairs or diagnosis involves pulling up floorboards and all the associated hassle that brings.
It doesn’t evenly heat your room either – and I have been to friend’s places where the UFH is uncomfortably present beneath your feet.
Heated skirting boards are a different proposition entirely. They’re more expensive to install than traditional radiators, but then they blow the radiator out of the water when it comes to energy efficiency. Heated skirting boards can knock up to 40% off your energy bills for heating. That’s better by far than either radiators or UFH.
Skirting Board Radiators are also extremely easy to fit, to maintain and to repair. The skirting board fascia comes off (it has a gap on the angle to allow air heated by an element to rise in a curtain up your walls) and everything is easily accessible.
For cost effective and genuinely efficient heating, skirting boards are the way to go.
